Gazebo:
In the Gazebo we recommended the use of an outdoor IP 44 rated BEGA
pendant luminaire, model 6406. We used a 26-watt
amalgam gas compact fluorescent lamp in combination with an integral
electronic ballast with cold temperature starting of
–30o C. This lamp and ballast combination offers
enhanced operating characteristics over standard compact fluorescent
lamps in cold temperature situations. This is of particular
importance when considering our Canadian climate.
The luminaire was modified to incorporate a hard-wired metal rod suspension
system with a 35o adjustable ball aligner at the ceiling canopy.
This allows tension relief on the suspension system while minimizing
pendulum swing during those extra windy days. The ball aligner also
allows the luminaire to return to its proper vertical orientation.
As an outdoor IP44 rated fixture, rain, water spray and dirt are not a
concern for this luminaire. The die-cast aluminum ballast housing and
heavy gauge spun aluminum reflector housing incorporate a fully gasketted
clear lens with integral high purity specular aluminum reflector for optimum
corrosion resistance and enhance lighting performance.
All fasteners are stainless steel screws threading into stainless steel
inserts within the casting to ensure long-term serviceability and to avoid
the problem that occurs when to different metals react together causing them
to lock up.
Suspended approximately 7.5 ft. above the floor we achieved an average light
level of 6.24 foot-candles maintained with uniformity of 1.2:1 average to
minimum and 1.58:1 maximum to minimum.
